Guidelines for Submissions

The Journal of the Swedenborg Society is an academic publication aimed at contextualizing the thought of Swedenborg within the history of ideas. For a list of previous issues see Journals. Current themes under consideration include

• Swedenborg and the Visual Arts

• Swedenborg and Psychology

• Swedenborg and Science

• Swedenborg and London

All proposals and enquiries are welcome and should be submitted to the Editor at the email address below.

General Guidelines for Contributors preparing a proposal or article

• Proposals: please send a 250 word abstract and provisional title.

• Previously published articles will be considered but suitability will depend on various factors i.e. copyright, if published in a different language, if revised etc.

• Articles should run to approx. 3000-6000 words. Longer articles are welcome but might be shortened, in consultation with the author, for publication.

• Authors are invited to submit more than one article.

• Articles written in a language other than English will be translated at the cost (and direction) of the Swedenborg Society. This will not affect the author's remuneration.

• Book length proposals will also be considered but must be accompanied with an outline of chapters and previous published articles.

• A fee of £200 will be paid per article published.

• All proposals/papers should be accompanied by a CV of previous publications.

Authors are directed to the Oxford Style Manual for guidelines.

Computer Compatibility

When received, all texts will be processed on Apple Mac computers. We can also receive texts that are PC compatible.

We can receive CD’s and floppy discs. We can also receive articles via e-mail attachments.

• A hard copy of the article should always be sent with the disc (in case formatting information is lost).

• Contributors should consult the Oxford Style Manual for style guidance.

Once Article/Proposal has been submitted

Once an article/proposal has been submitted, authors can expect a reply within two weeks. If accepted, completion dates, publication dates and other editorial guidelines will be discussed.

• Once the completed article is received it will be typeset according to the House style of the Society

• As soon as page proofs are available, they will be sent to the Author for proof-reading. Please read them against your own copy of the typescript.

• When the corrected proofs come back, the corrections will be collated onto the proofreader’s set of proofs.

• Once the article is published the contributor will then receive payment and six free copies of the publication.

Marketing

The Swedenborg Society Journal is placed in numerous international public and university libraries. We are also building our distribution to major London retailers i.e. Waterstones, Foyles and a range of independent booksellers. Further inquiries should be emailed to:
