Synopsis

In the preface to this book, Swedenborg wrote: 'Many people have striven to explain the Book of Revelation, but because the spiritual sense of the Word has until now been unknown, they could not see the secrets which lie hidden in it; for these are revealed only by the spiritual sense. The expositors have therefore differed in their conjectures, applying its contents to the affairs of empires, blending them at the same time with ecclesiastical matters. But the Book of Revelation, like the rest of the Word, in its spiritual sense, is not in the least concerned with worldly, but with heavenly affairs, that is, not with empires and kingdoms, but with heaven and the Church'.

The Apocalypse Revealed was published by Swedenborg in 1766, in preference to his longer Apocalypse Explained.
