In Conversation: Edward Chell is the second in a series of artist interviews published by the Swedenborg Society. This interview was organized in conjunction with Ten Steps to Heaven, an installation consisting of fourteen handrails and a plaque, commissioned by the Swedenborg Society in celebration of its 200th anniversary. In this book, Edward discusses with Amy Halliday his thoughts on his installation and his art practice more generally. One of the leading painters of his generation, his recent work includes a range of media and draws on disregarded places, borderlands and peripheries, from stairwells to motorway verges and car parks to landfill sites.
Ed Chell is a lecturer on Fine Art, and works and lives in London. He has exhibited at a number of international venues, and more recently was commissioned by Stour Valley Arts. The installation Ten Steps to Heaven was generously supported by the Arts Council England and the University of the Creative Arts Canterbury.
